Toxic Positivity

I live near a coffeeshop that has a sandwich board outside that reads, “it costs nothing to be kind.” In theory, I have no qualms with such a statement and a part of me even wants to champion exerting energy like this out into the world, especially to the sorts of people who are vibrating towards their business with a need for status quo uppers, however, I’m always a bit irked whenever I pass this sign.
